The Cobham / Aeroflex / IFR GPS-101-2 is a GPS satellite simulator designed for the installation and functional bench testing of Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers. This simulator accurately replicates GPS satellite signals, enabling users to test receiver sensitivity, acquisition, and lock performance under various simulated conditions. It is suitable for research, development, and manufacturing environments requiring precise GPS signal simulation.
### Technical Specifications
* **Signal Generation:** Generates GPS signals on the L1 channel (1575.42 MHz) frequency.
* **RF Output Level:** Adjustable from -85 dBm to -145 dBm in 1 dB steps. This allows for verification of system and/or receiver sensitivity.
* **Doppler Frequency Offset:** Allows selection of no shift, -4 kHz, or +4 kHz. This feature is used to verify receiver acquisition and lock performance.
* **Satellite Simulation:** Can simulate one of 32 global positioning satellites or one of five ground stations. It transmits a phase-modulated C/A code (Gold Code) signal to identify the particular satellite or ground station.
* **Navigation (NAV) Data:** Provides selectable preset 50 Hz NAV data test patterns. This includes selectable Satellite Vehicle (SV) and Navigation (NAV) data.
* **Almanac Data:** Allows uploading and downloading of almanac data. It stores GPS almanac with a real-time clock. The almanac data is valid for a 30-day period and can be downloaded in ‘YUMA’ ASCII text format via the RS-232 port. Current almanac data can be obtained from the U.S. Coastguard Internet Web Site.
* **Time and Date:** Provides adjustable date and time, with initial factory loading of current date and time (UTC). It has an internal real-time clock that keeps UTC time and is programmable by the user.
* **Power:** Battery operated for approximately six hours of operation. It can be charged using a supplied AC power cable, with a full charge taking four to six hours.
### Interfaces
* **RF Output:** TNC, Female connector.
* **Auxiliary Port:** 25-pin D-Sub, Male connector.
* **RS-232 “REMOTE” (COMM 1):** 9-pin D-Sub, Male connector, PC compatible.
* **RS-232/422 “RECEIVER” (COMM 2):** 25-pin D-Sub, Male connector, PC compatible.
### Physical
* **Dimensions:** 292 mm wide; 131 mm high; 412 mm deep (does not include handle). (11.4 in. wide; 5.1 in. high; 16.1 in. deep, does not include handle)
### Compatibility
* **Receiver Types:** Suitable for integrated GPS receiver-antenna systems, installed GPS receivers with remote antenna systems, and any GPS receiver or installation capable of detecting a single satellite with appropriate navigation data.
* **Data Formats:** Supports ‘YUMA’ ASCII text format for almanac data transfer.
