The Abaco Systems PCI-40A is a four-slot IndustryPack carrier board that integrates multiple IndustryPack modules directly into PCI-based systems. Built around a PLX PCI9080 controller and Altera FPGA, this standard PCI form factor card expands industrial and desktop I/O capabilities while maintaining full compliance with ANSI/VITA 4-1995 specifications.
– Technical Specifications
Bus Interface & Control
• PLX PCI9080 PCI controller
• Altera FPGA logic
• PCI local bus compliance: rev. 1.1 (March 28, 2005)
• PCI signaling: 5.0 V
IndustryPack Architecture
• Four (4) IndustryPack slots with 50-pin keyed connectors
• Per-slot clock selection: 8 MHz to 32 MHz (software-configurable)
• 8 MB memory space per IndustryPack site
• Two interrupt requests per IP module
• Interrupt vector space fully configurable
• ID space formats: Type I and Type II support
Data Transfer & Addressing
• 32-bit high-speed PCI host address space
• Slave mode: 32-bit, 16-bit, and 8-bit data transfers
• 32-bit read/write implemented as dual 16-bit transfers to IP modules
• I/O space: 128 bytes per IP module (16-bit and 8-bit access)
• ID space: Type I (32 bytes consecutive even addresses) and Type II (32 words via D16 transfers)
• Total memory allocation: 256 bytes for PCI configuration + 64 MB for IP module address space
– Key Features
• Per-slot clock flexibility enables mixed-speed module populations
• Linear memory mapping and fixed address partitioning for each module
• Interrupt acknowledge cycles via IP INT space access
• Supports both 16-bit and 8-bit ID space access modes
– Typical Applications
Real-time data acquisition, embedded control systems, legacy IndustryPack module integration, industrial automation platforms, and distributed I/O expansion in PCI-based architectures.
– Compatibility & Integration
Meets or exceeds ANSI/VITA 4-1995 specifications for 8 MHz and 32 MHz operation. Backward compatible with existing IndustryPack modules using Type I and Type II ID formats. Operates in standard PCI memory space with configurable address partitioning for memory, I/O, and ID resources across all four slots.
