The Advantest Q7606B is an optical chirpform test set designed to measure and analyze chirp (frequency-modulated) and intensity-modulated components of laser light across the 1510 nm to 1590 nm wavelength range. Operating in conjunction with a digital sampling oscilloscope, personal computer, and GPIB interface, the instrument separates incident optical signals into modulation constituents using dual fiber-type Mach-Zehnder interferometers. Switchable output modes deliver either the sum (IM+FM) or difference (IM-FM) of modulation components, enabling time-domain analysis of optical device performance.
The Q7606B accepts optical input power from −20 dBm to +10 dBm and operates across a demodulation bandwidth of 100 Hz to 50 GHz. Automatic polarization compensation ensures measurement accuracy across the full operating range. Typical measurement cycles complete in 30 seconds or less with ±5% repeatability. Insertion loss remains 10 dB or less, and demodulation frequency resolution is specified at 20 MHzp-p or better.
