The Agilent/HP 83494A is a single-mode clock recovery module designed for high-speed optical signal analysis up to 9.953 Gb/s. This plug-in module recovers clock signals from optical data streams and regenerates data with exceptional timing precision, enabling accurate jitter and eye diagram characterization across SONET/SDH transmission rates. Operating across the 1200–1600 nm wavelength range, it accepts single-mode fiber (9/125 µm) and delivers recovered clock and regenerated data electrical outputs. The module supports multiple data rates including 0.155, 0.622, 2.488, and 9.953 Gb/s, with optional configurations for 10.3125 Gb/s or multirate operation to 10.709 Gb/s. The 83494A provides two triggering modes: internal PLL with 90 kHz bandwidth or external output with 4–5 MHz bandwidth, allowing data triggering for non-standard rates. Its mainframe trigger output delivers lower-jitter modulation bandwidth than the front-panel clock auxiliary output, providing enhanced visibility into waveform jitter characteristics.
