The Agilent HP Keysight E8257N PSG is a fully synthesized analog signal generator delivering precision RF output across multiple configurable frequency bands. Built for demanding RF and microwave test applications, it combines wide frequency coverage, fine frequency resolution, and flexible modulation to support component characterization, system integration, and production test environments.
– Technical Specifications
Frequency Range & Resolution
The E8257N offers six frequency band options: 250 kHz to 20 GHz (Option 520), 10 MHz to 20 GHz (Option 521), 250 kHz to 31.8 GHz (Option 532), 250 kHz to 40 GHz (Option 540), 250 kHz to 50 GHz (Option 550), and 250 kHz to 67 GHz (Option 567). All bands operate down to 100 kHz. Frequency resolution is 0.001 Hz across all modes.
Output Power
Standard RF output spans −105 dBm to +10 dBm at 18 GHz and +7 dBm at 40 GHz. High output power and ultrahigh output power options are available. Maximum power is warranted from 15 to 35 °C and typical from 0 to 15 °C, with degradation less than 2 dB at 35 to 55 °C.
Spectral Purity
Phase noise measures typically −126 dBc/Hz at 10 GHz carrier with 10 kHz offset. Enhanced phase noise options (UNR, UNX, UNY) and improved harmonics below 2 GHz (Option 1EH) are available.
– Key Features
• Analog modulation: AM, FM, phase modulation, and LF output (Option UNT)
• Pulse and narrow pulse modulation (Options UNU, UNW)
• Step and ramp sweep with 1 ms to 60 s sweep time
• Ten independent continuously variable frequency markers
• Frequency switching within 0.1 ppm (above 250 MHz) or 100 Hz (below 250 MHz)
• CW switching speed ≥5 ms nominal; 30–40 ms with Option HY2
• 45-minute warm-up time required
• Operating temperature: 0 to 50 °C
– Typical Applications
Component and subsystem characterization, receiver sensitivity testing, transmitter validation, and production alignment across microwave and millimeter-wave bands.
– Compatibility & Integration
Front panel S-type connectors for RF output and control interfaces support GPIB triggering and marker functionality.
