The Agilent/Keysight 3406A is a broadband sampling voltmeter engineered for high-frequency RF measurements from 10 kHz to 1.2 GHz. Using sampling techniques, it resolves signals as small as 50 µV across eight voltage ranges (1 mV to 3 V full scale) with 20 µV resolution on the 1 mV range. The instrument delivers ±3% accuracy between 100 kHz and 100 MHz, and ±8% accuracy from 700 MHz to 1 GHz. Beyond RF voltage measurement, the 3406A accepts a clip-on transducer probe for DC current measurement from 1 mA to 10 A full scale across nine ranges, with ±3% accuracy plus ±0.15 mA at calibration. The magnetic field sensing approach provides DC isolation without circuit contact. Low-frequency current up to 400 Hz can be monitored via front panel output to an external oscilloscope or voltmeter. Front panel output delivers variable linear response with a calibrated 1 V setting at full-scale deflection. A proportional DC recorder output (0 to 1.2 mA into 1000 Ω) tracks meter deflection. The instrument operates from 0°C to 55°C and draws 71 W from 115 or 230 V ±10%, 48–440 Hz mains. Housed in a compact 292 mm H × 191 mm W × 368 mm D chassis weighing 8.6 kg net.
