The Keysight RP7984A is a bidirectional, regenerative DC power system engineered for high-voltage and high-power testing. Operating in two-quadrant mode, it functions as both a precision power source and electronic load, sourcing and sinking current without output characteristic changes. This capability makes it ideal for battery emulation, converter characterization, and HEV/EV validation. The unit returns up to 90% of power to the grid, reducing energy costs and cooling requirements.
Autoranging output expands the voltage-current power curve, delivering more operating combinations from a single instrument. An integrated arbitrary function generator enables transient simulation for dynamic testing. Battery emulation includes programmable internal resistance up to 50 Ω and simulates charge states and operating life. Photovoltaic mode simulation supports inverter testing under realistic PV conditions. Command processing occurs at sub-millisecond speed with fast output response.
The RP7984A connects via LAN (LXI Core), USB, and GPIB for remote control and integration into automated test systems. Units parallel easily to create higher power configurations—up to 150 kW through straightforward parallel connection. Input voltage ranges from 380 V to 480 VAC at ±10% tolerance (three-phase), with 0.99 power factor. Housed in a 5U-high 19-inch rack enclosure measuring 765 × 427 × 221 mm and weighing 57.2 kg, the RP7984A delivers 30 kW maximum output at up to 1500 V and ±60 A.
