The Agilent/Keysight X382A is a waveguide variable attenuator for X-band applications, providing precise signal attenuation from 0 to 50 dB across the 8.2 to 12.4 GHz band. This component bridges waveguide and coaxial transmission lines with minimal insertion loss and excellent impedance matching characteristics.
Attenuation is controlled by rotating a resistive card, a design that eliminates sensitivity to temperature and humidity fluctuations. The attenuator delivers ±0.2% or 0.1 dB accuracy (whichever is greater) with a maximum SWR of 1.15 and handles up to 10 W continuous-wave power. Direct-reading dials enable precise manual attenuation settings without external instrumentation.
Operational performance includes residual attenuation below 1 dB at zero setting, backlash less than 0.3 dB at maximum attenuation, and negligible phase variation across the control range. The device operates symmetrically in either direction, making it flexible for bidirectional signal paths.
