The EMCO 5317 is a Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic (GTEM) cell engineered for radiated emissions evaluations and radiated immunity testing in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. Originally manufactured by EMCO and now part of the ETS-Lindgren product line following acquisition, the 5317 represents the largest GTEM cell produced by EMCO. Its substantial internal volume and septum design—positioned in the upper third of the cell—create a larger usable test space beneath the septum compared to conventional TEM cells, accommodating larger devices under test.
## Technical Specifications
• **Product Type:** Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic (GTEM) Cell
• **Model:** EMCO 5317
• **Frequency Range — Immunity Testing:** 0 to 40 GHz
• **Frequency Range — Radiated Emission Evaluations:** 0 to 1 GHz
• **Internal Usable Test Volume:** 1200 mm (H) × 1200 mm (W) × 900 mm (D)
• **Maximum Weight Capacity:** 3000 lbs
• **Operational Principle:** TEM wave propagation; operation below first resonance onset provides calculable fields with low uncertainties
## Key Features
• Septum design accommodates larger test objects through expanded volume beneath the septum
• Designed to predict field strength comparable to Open Area Test Sites (OATS) by capturing total radiation vector from DUT
• Transitions between rectangular and tapered sections may excite higher-order modes; operation maintained below resonance onset minimizes such effects
## Typical Applications
• Radiated emissions assessment of products and devices
• Radiated immunity characterization across broad frequency spectrum
• Product development and pre-compliance testing
• Cost-effective alternative to newer GTEM models for established test protocols
## Compatibility & Integration
• **Testing Standards:** ANSI 63.4, IEC 61000-4-20
• **Predecessor Model:** EMCO 5311 GTEM
• **Related/Successor Model:** ETS-Lindgren 5407 GTEM
