The Fitel/Furukawa S174H is a core-alignment fusion splicer engineered for precision splicing of single-mode and multi-mode optical fibers in field and laboratory environments. The unit performs automated core/clad offset measurement, fiber alignment, and splicing with integrated splice loss estimation displayed on an onboard TV monitor. Its compact footprint (200 mm W × 190 mm D × 180 mm H) and direct fiber core viewing capability enable accurate alignment without external optical systems. The S174H accepts five fiber types: single-mode fiber (SMF), multi-mode fiber (MMF), dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZDSF), and erbium-doped fiber (EDF), with cladding diameter of 125 µm and coating diameter ranging from 250 µm to 1.00 mm.
