The Keysight 81578A is a variable optical attenuator (VOA) module engineered for multimode fiber applications in Keysight’s Lightwave Solution Platform mainframes. This single-slot plug-in delivers precise attenuation control from 0 dB to 60 dB with 0.001 dB resolution across the 700 nm to 1400 nm wavelength range. Manual and remote GPIB control enable laboratory and production testing of telecommunications and data communication systems. An integrated shutter supports power meter zeroing and channel drop simulation. The module accepts 50 µm or 62.5 µm multimode fiber with FC/PC connectors and offers repeatability of ± 0.015 dB and typical accuracy of ± 0.15 dB (800–1350 nm) or ± 0.2 dB at 850 nm and 1310 nm. Maximum input power is +27 dBm.
