The Keysight (Agilent) N3914AL OTDR Test Engine is a plug-in module for the N3900A Modular Network Tester platform that delivers multi-wavelength optical fiber characterization for metro network installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Operating at 1310 nm, 1550 nm, and 1625 nm simultaneously, this engine captures detailed trace data with 45 dB dynamic range and readout resolution to 0.1 m. The module features user-selectable sampling from 4000 to 64000 points, pulse widths from 10 ns to 20 µs, and horizontal span coverage from 0.1 km to 400 km. Vertical scale adjusts from 0.1 to 10.0 dB/Div with 0.001 dB readout resolution. Built-in RISC processing enables fast acquisition and parallel operation with other test engines. Pass/Fail testing automatically evaluates attenuation, insertion loss, and return loss; bending diagnostics locate macro and micro faults. CW-source mode delivers -3 to -8 dBm output with ±0.1 dB stability (±0.15 dB @ 1625 nm) and 270 Hz, 1 kHz, or 2 kHz square-wave modulation. The engine operates continuously for approximately 5 hours and draws maximum 8 W. Remote control via LAN or USB is supported through the E6092A Toolkit companion software. Laser safety complies with Class 1M per IEC 60825-1 (2001). Recalibration is recommended every 2 years.
