The NI PCI-7831R is a multifunction reconfigurable I/O (RIO) device for high-performance data acquisition and real-time control. Built around a user-programmable Virtex-II 1M Gate FPGA, it delivers custom on-board processing with direct I/O control, enabling precise timing and synchronization without host intervention. The module combines 8 independent 16-bit analog input channels (200 kS/s per channel), 8 independent 16-bit analog output channels (1 MS/s per channel, 1.0 µs update time), and 96 configurable digital I/O lines operating at rates up to 40 MHz. Each digital line supports custom logic, input/output, or counter modes at 3.3V TTL levels. The FPGA provides 40 × 18×18 multipliers and 720 kbits embedded block RAM for algorithm acceleration and specialized signal processing.
