The NI PXI-8232 is a single-slot PXI module that combines Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with IEEE 488.2 GPIB control in one integrated interface. Built around the Intel 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet controller, it delivers data transfer rates up to 1000 Mb/s while maintaining backward compatibility with 100Base-TX and 10Base-T networks. The module supports automatic MDI/MDI-X negotiation and cable polarity detection, eliminating the need for crossover cables and simplifying network integration.
The onboard GPIB controller enables communication with IEEE 488.1 and 488.2 instruments at speeds up to 7.7 MB/s using HS488 handshaking. A license for NI-488.2 driver software is included. When programmed with NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT software in LabVIEW, the Ethernet port functions as an EtherCAT master, expanding application flexibility.
