The NI PXI-8330 MXI-3 Interface Module extends a host computer’s PCI bus to remote PXI or CompactPCI chassis using high-speed serial MXI-3 technology. It creates a transparent hardware and software link, allowing the host to control remote PXI modules as if directly connected. The module supports daisy-chain and star configurations for expanding one chassis into two or linking multiple chassis across distances up to 200 meters.
– Technical Specifications
MXI-3 Bridge Architecture
The PXI-8330 implements a PCI-to-PCI bridge split into two halves connected by a high-speed serial link, functioning as a standard PCI-to-PCI bridge. Serial data rate reaches 1.5 Gbit/s.
Data Transfer Performance
• Peak data transfer rate: 132 Mbytes/s
• Sustained data transfer rate: 84 Mbytes/s
System Expansion
Supports control of PCI devices on up to 255 buses from any PCI-based system. Copper MXI-3 cables available in 2 m, 5 m, and 10 m lengths. Fiber-optic MXI-3 cables extend reach to 200 m maximum for electrical isolation or long-distance applications.
Power and Environmental
Power requirement: +5 VDC at 1.5 A. Operating temperature 0 to 50 °C; storage -20 to 70 °C. Non-condensing humidity 10 to 90% operating, 5 to 95% storage.
Physical Dimensions
PXI module: 6.3 x 3.9 inches, 8 oz. PCI model: 4.2 x 6.9 inches, 5 oz (0.33 lb).
– Key Features
• Transparent PCI bridge eliminates complex protocol translation
• Operates across multiple chassis in daisy-chain or star topology
• Fiber-optic cable option enables 200 m isolation and distance capability
• Supports up to 255 PCI buses from single host system
– Compatibility & Integration
