The Sorrento Networks GMMD(-A-G2-02) is a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network module designed for fiber optic transport within the GigaMux product family. It enables protocol-agnostic data transport across telecommunications and data networking infrastructure by multiplexing multiple wavelengths onto a single fiber strand, supporting Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET/SDH, and CPRI protocols.
– Technical Specifications
• WDM Technology: Supports both Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)
• Channel Capacity: Up to 80 channels per fiber pair with DWDM
• Individual Channel Speed: Up to 10 Gb/s per channel
• Platform Aggregation: Up to 400 Gb/s per platform in some configurations
• Extended Reach: Supports 80 km to 1500 km distances
• Optical Interface: Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) client-side and trunk-side optics
– Key Features
• Protocol Agnosticism: Transports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET/SDH, and Storage Area Network (SAN) protocols without protocol-specific constraints
• Multiplexing & Muxponding: Aggregates multiple lower-rate traffic signals into higher-speed channels; muxponders consolidate various client traffic onto single line-side wavelengths
• Data Aggregation: Data Mux Module (DMM) example aggregates Gigabit Ethernet and 1G Fibre Channel into single 2.5G WDM wavelengths
• Low Latency: Optimized for ultra-low latency applications including high-frequency trading and synchronous Data Center Interconnect (DCI)
• Flexible Optics: SFP transceiver compatibility enables varied client and trunk configurations
• Increased Fiber Capacity: Maximizes bandwidth without requiring new fiber infrastructure installation
– Typical Applications
• Telecommunications carrier networks
• Enterprise data center interconnection
• High-frequency trading environments
• Storage area network (SAN) transport
• Multi-protocol consolidation over single fiber pairs
– Compatibility & Integration
The GMMD module integrates within GigaMux platforms including the GigaMux 3200 and GigaMux 3300 series, with 100 Gbps DWDM capability in the 3300 configuration. Compatible with SFP-based client and trunk optics for flexible network deployment.
